IAN TIMIS
INDEPENDENT NATURAL RESOURCES SENIOR EXECUTIVE
20+ YEARS IN MINING & ENERGY
Building disciplined, transparent and sustainable value in complex global markets.
I am a private equity and natural resources executive with over twenty years of experience leading mining, energy transition, and infrastructure projects across Africa, Europe, and North America. My work spans the full value chain, from exploration and feasibility through to financing, construction, and exit, with more than US$3.7 billion in transactions and developments delivered. I bridge operational execution with institutional capital strategy, embedding ESG and decarbonisation principles into disciplined investment frameworks. I originate and manage cross-border ventures in frontier jurisdictions, aligning stakeholders, communities, and investors to achieve sustainable, long-term growth. I hold a BA (Hons) in Business Management from the University of Westminster in London and the FCA Level III Certification from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).
MINING & METALS
AFRICAN MINERALS LIMITED (ACQUIRED BY OPERATING AND MAJOR PARTNER, SHANDONG IRON & STEEL)
During the early 2010s, I served as an Independent Strategic Advisor to African Minerals Limited (AIM-listed) as the company advanced the Tonkolili iron-ore project in Sierra Leone, one of West Africa’s largest-ever mineral discoveries. Emerging from the aftermath of Sierra Leone’s decade-long civil war, Tonkolili became a symbol of national recovery and industrial renewal. At its peak, the project employed more than 6,800 people, around 80% of whom were Sierra Leonean nationals, and was recognised by the IMF and international observers for driving rapid GDP growth, nearly 30% in 2012, making Sierra Leone one of the world’s fastest-growing economies that year. African Minerals’ market capitalisation exceeded USD 3.5 billion, positioning it among the largest resource developers in West Africa before global iron-ore prices collapsed and the Ebola crisis disrupted operations in 2014. Working alongside local and international partners, my focus was on helping establish governance, investor confidence and operational standards that balanced growth with post-conflict rebuilding.

AFRICAN PETROLEUM CORPORATION LIMITED (MERGED WITH PETRONOR E&P)
As Director of Mergers and Acquisitions at African Petroleum Corporation (later merged with Petronor E&P), I oversaw the company’s strategic growth and capital-markets initiatives across the West African Transform Margin. My remit combined financial structuring, cross-border negotiation, and investor engagement to advance a portfolio of ten offshore exploration blocks spanning more than 32,000 km² across Senegal, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire. I led a USD 750 million equity raise and dual listings on the ASX and Oslo Børs, expanding institutional participation and strengthening corporate-governance frameworks. My focus was on integrating ESG-risk modelling and aligning sovereign licences with international standards, positioning the company as one of the region’s most credible independent explorers.

AGRO INDUSTRIES - Senegal Operations, 2018
AGRO INDUSTRIES
As Principal of Strategic Projects at Agro Industries (African Agriculture Inc.), I played a key role in the company’s early development, overseeing daily operations and managing a team of more than 120 staff across multiple agricultural initiatives. My focus was on strengthening operational resilience, governance, and financial readiness during a critical phase of expansion. Through disciplined planning and investor engagement, I helped lay the foundation for a NASDAQ-ready agribusiness platform valued at over USD 400 million, positioning the company to attract global capital. That groundwork anticipated the landmark 2023 NASDAQ listing of African Agriculture, recognised as the first pure-play U.S.-listed agriculture company operating in Africa.
